Well, this is interesting. You’ll notice that the new 2023 Volkswagen Jetta has many pros in major categories, like price, efficiency and technology, and that the new 2023 Nissan Altima comes up a bit short. (But we can’t say that we’re surprised.) To start, the Nissan Altima model’s starting MSRP is nearly $5,000 more than the Volkswagen Jetta model’s starting MSRP.1,2 That’s quite a bit of money to be throwing around on a model within the same vehicle segment. Another major difference between the two is their fuel efficiency. The Volkswagen Jetta offers EPA-estimated 42 mpg on the highway3 while the Nissan Altima only offers EPA-estimated 34 mpg on the highway.4 The difference is especially glaring since the Nissan Altima has a Continuously Variable Transmission — known for its smooth, effortless transition between gears, thereby saving fuel and increasing efficiency. The Volkswagen Jetta model’s (much higher) EPA-estimated mpg rating is based on the vehicle operating with a manual transmission. And finally, you’ll want to check out the size difference between the optional digital instrument cluster displays. The 10.25-inch Volkswagen Digital Cockpit Pro will be easier on the eyes than the smaller seven-inch Advanced Drive-Assist™ Display on the Nissan Altima.
