Yikes. We thought this would be a closer call with the new 2023 Hyundai IONIQ 5, but it appears the engineers of the new 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 didn’t hold back. Take note, Hyundai. Both all-electric models have their own branded all-wheel drive systems, but that’s the only similarity we could find that’s worth noting. The Volkswagen ID.4 is the only one that offers a massage function for its driver and heated rear seats for backseat passengers. It also boasts an Intuitive Start System, a smart feature that senses the key fob and starts the engine when the driver sits down with the fob in hand. The Hyundai IONIQ 5, in contrast, requires the driver to press buttons or use their smart device to start the vehicle. The Hyundai IONIQ 5 also forces potential owners to upgrade to a higher (and more expensive) trim to receive wireless device charging, while the Volkswagen ID.4 generously provides the feature on every trim. And speaking of generosity, guess which vehicle has a lower starting MSRP? That’s right — the new 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 is almost $2,000 less than the new 2023 Hyundai IONIQ 5.4,5
